1946 Scarecrow and Tin-Man (my copy)

Author: Denslow, W W
Title: Scarecrow and Tin-Man : Including Slovenly Peter and Slovenly Betsy and Others
Illustrator: Illustrated by Mary Stover & Wallace Stover
Publication: New York: Perks Publishing, 1946.
Binding: Stapled wraps
Description: Mostly somewhat gruesome, old-fashioned moralizing tales, with harm coming to bad or inattentive children. Contents include: Scarecrow and Tin-Man; Slovenly Peter; The Story of Fidgety Philip; The Story of Johnny Look-in-the-Air; The Story of Sophy Spoilall; Slovenly Betsy; Cruel Paul; The Dreadful Story of Pauline and the Matches. ; Famous Books for the Nursery; Vol. 709; 24 pages.
This is my personal copy of this book. It is NOT by Denslow but "after Denslow." These illustrations are very poor when compared to the quality of Denslow's own 1904 version. Many details are left out of this 1943 version. It seems like a glorified coloring book as the pages are printed on similar paper.
My copy was purchased on eBay in October 2019. Part of the story of Slovenly Peter is missing. The story of The Story of Fidgety Philip is completely gone as well as the beginning of The Story of Johnny Look-in-the-Air.

In my opinion Denslow's text in this book lacks the charm that is present in The Wizard of Oz. It seems to be a simple story about the Scarecrow and Tin-Man but not much meat or storyline.

The back cover notes that this copy was "Compliments of Farr's Better Shoes by Farr." Undoubtably, it was given free with a purchase to feed the craze for the Wizard of Oz, and is similar to movie-based plastic toys given away in McDonald's Happy Meals today.
